David Lay

David left school and went straight into the auction industry. He began working as a porter at a local auction house before setting up on his own in his early twenties.

He began with his offices on Morrab Road, Penzance before purchasing the current site in the 1980’s. David studied to join the Royal Institute of Chartered Surveyors, becoming a member in the 1980’s and later a fellow. He has forged strong relationships with artists, dealers and experts in the local area as well as nationally and internationally, relationships which are regularly drawn upon to help make the business the success it is today.

David’s knowledge base is broad, he is an expert valuer and regularly carries out probate and insurance valuations as well as valuing and cataloguing items for sale. His auctioneering style is very entertaining as recognised by his National Auctioneer of the Year Award (2003/04) and his National British Antiques and Collectables award.

As chairman and owner of the business David leads from the front interacting with our clients on a daily business and working closely with our other experts in order to ensure that our service is the quality that it should be.
