Asian antiques is an exciting and growing sector of the market and one in which at Lay’s we have enjoyed some significant successes. We have an in house Asian antique specialist, Darren Ashley and work with some experienced researchers in order to ensure that we draw on a wide knowledge base. We have a dedicated Asian section within each of our antique sales and hold Specialist Asian sales at least once a year which are a fantastic opportunity to see some very special pieces.
Previous sale highlights include an 18th century Qianlong moon flask that made £75,000 in the 1990s, a staggering sum for that time. More recently we facilitated the sale of a piece that made the national media, a Daoguang vase of the highest quality which eventually sold for £60,000 and in the same sale we sold a Yongzheng Lotus cup for £22,000.
Our July 2019 Asian sale saw many exciting pieces achieve good prices. The standout lot, a beautiful Qianlong jardinière from a local country estate made £18,000.
