Asian antiques is an exciting and growing sector of the market and one in which at Lay’s we have enjoyed some significant successes. We have an in-house Asian antique specialist, Darren Ashley, and work with some experienced researchers in order to ensure that we draw on a wide knowledge base. We have a dedicated Asian section within each of our antique sales and hold Specialist Asian sales three to four times a year which are a fantastic opportunity to see some very special pieces.
Previous sale highlights include an 18th century Qianlong moon flask that made £75,000 in the 1990s, a staggering sum for that time. More recently we facilitated the sale of a piece that made the national media, a Daoguang vase of the highest quality which eventually sold for £60,000 and in the same sale we sold a Yongzheng Lotus cup for £22,000.
