We are honoured to present this auction celebrating the singular vision of Patrick Hayman - an artist whose work defies easy classification and rewards deep contemplation. Hayman’s art emerges from an intensely personal and imaginative world, shaped by myth, poetry, and an unwavering commitment to inner truth. Through a rich array of small-scale paintings, drawings, constructions, and verse, he constructed a symbolic language of his own - one he continued to refine over the course of many years.

Although fiercely individual, Hayman was a vital figure in the post-war Cornish art scene. He exhibited widely throughout his long and prolific career and earned the admiration of contemporaries such as Barbara Hepworth and Peter Lanyon, who recognised in him a fellow seeker - an artist of rare authenticity and vision.

This collection offers a glimpse into Hayman’s compelling inner landscape, inviting viewers to engage with works that are as enigmatic as they are intimate. We are delighted to share this thought-provoking body of work and hope it brings you as much fascination and inspiration as it has brought us.

If, like us, you were not so familiar with Hayman, we hope you enjoy stepping into his world through this collection. We also invite you to learn more about the artist in our blog post: Patrick Hayman; Painter, Poet & Publisher (1915-1988), Works from a Visionary Artist.
