Ram Kumar 'The City' This wonderful, major work from one of India's most celebrated artists was brought in to David Lay's by a Devon dealer. Painted in the 1950's, it had lain undiscovered in Devon for many years. After a well publicised viewing at a specialist London dealers during Asian Art Week, it was auctioned in our 2010 July Art Sale. Hectic bidding on 14 telephone lines saw the painting finally sell for a staggering £170,000.
This altar piece, in the form of a Tibetan Stupa sold for an incredible £25,000 in our 2011 December Antiques Sale. It was sold on behalf of a mid-Cornwall vendor and was being used as part of a table lamp! Clearly damaged and incomplete, an estimate was given of £400 - 600. With frantic bidding online and on the telephones, the piece eventually sold to a specialist, London based dealer.
